I have followed english football on norwegian television since very early 90’s. I remembere watching my first game on may 17th 1990. It was the Fa Cup-final replay between Manchester United and Crystal Palace when Lee Martin scored the winning goal. In 1993 I became a member of the Scandinavian supporterclub for Manchester United and will surely be for the rest of my life. I do think I have watched at least 80% of every united-game in the the last 16 years.
But my point here is that the Premier League has always been very popular in Norway and has been very accessable. It has been on the present channel Canal+ since 1998 with them having all the rights. Canal+ has also showed the sunday and some monday matches from 1997. But these days their rights in Scandinavia has been bought by a company called Medge Consulting. It would be very sad if the tradition that has been built over 4 decades would be put into a risk just because of money! Ridicoulus if you ask me! So this leads to that it is very uncertain where we can see the Premier League from now on.
I really do think that if it was possible, then should Canal+ pay as much as it is healthy to do to keep screening the best league in the world. Because Canal+ with or without Premier League, would be two different channels. I have worked in the channel as a runner and production-assistent for two months last year, and I really loved the place. Nice people from the program-host to the editor of the matchreviews! I just wants them to keep having the Premier League.
What do people think of the new ‘experts’ in the studio by the way? I really love the way they run the show. With all respect for the program, it does not hurt to ask for people’s opinion. Otherwise I thinks the staff in the studio are good… Big Ron Atkinson is what you could call an exciting and a big personality!
